01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Yakitori Dansu.’s Omakaruto set pairs chef-selected yakitori with the pleasure of choosing a few skewers to suit your own taste. It includes an assortment of three appetisers, a palate cleanser, two small dishes and four skewers selected by the chef, plus one skewer of your choice from each of the egg, vegetable and offal categories. The set comprises 13 items and costs 4,180 yen. Choices include a dashi omelette skewer, a strikingly black oeuf mayonnaise, shiitake mushrooms, leeks, liver and chicken hearts. It is a good fit for diners who want to build a meal around yakitori while choosing some of the details for themselves.

People who have tried the set have praised the tender, fluffy texture of the chicken tenderloin, as well as the springy bite of the hearts and liver. Small dishes such as guacamole with chicken egg yolk and a cheese-filled pouch add variety alongside the skewers.

There are several ways to finish, depending on your appetite and mood. The chicken paitan noodles combine a soup simmered slowly in-house with thin noodles delivered by a long-established local noodle maker; they make a lighter ending to the meal. For something more substantial, try the Dansu. Bowl, minced chicken rice topped with an egg yolk marinated in a special sauce. It comes with chicken paitan soup. The full-course set lets diners choose either the noodles or minced chicken rice, and also includes panna cotta for dessert.

You can also order à la carte rather than choosing a set, selecting whichever skewers and dishes appeal. The sake list ranges from dry to fruity styles, and the restaurant offers recommendations to match the food. The restaurant is in the basement near the north exit of Kyodo Station. Seating is limited, so booking ahead may be wise, particularly for dinner.
